7:50 pm - Signs you're doing too much p2p, #34:
I really have to throttle this. I've been uploading 10 gigabytes a day.

9:13 pm - Long shot
Does anyone have the retail CD of Radiohead's latest album "In Rainbows"? My copy seems really badly produced/pressed - the sound clips noticeably on almost all the tracks. It can't really be that bad can it?

10:36 pm - Some kind of crazy idea
So I have a few bits of calendaring software I'd like to keep in sync: Google Calendar, Microsoft Works Calendar (on Vista, if that helps), my mobile (Sony Ericsson K850i) and whatever's on the Eee (maybe KOrganizer). All of these have a manual import/export mechanism, but holy smokes it's 2007, surely there's a way to centralise my calendar and have everything synchronise from that?

It's almost enough to make me a bit sad.

6:17 pm - Old
Yesterday I turned 12,000 days old. Sometimes I really feel it.

9:28 am - Note to self
Remember to lock the keypad when you put your mobile in your pocket or you'll end up trying to send eight copies of your most recent photo to the AA again.

12:32 am - Two monkeys get in a bath, one says 'oo ooo ahh ahh!'
The other one says 'well put some cold water in then'.

9:56 pm - A quick heads up
If you've pointed NS records for a domain at a name server of mine, you might want to let me know. It's in your own best interest really, if you think about it. Best not to leave it for six months and just hope I log all my incoming DNS queries and occasionally analyse the logs, eh?

It's a good job I do just that. Seriously guys, come on!

10:16 pm - An open letter to all record labels
If I buy a CD and find that I can't rip it and play it on my mp3 player, I'm going to listen to it a lot less than the rest of my music, and I'm not going to be able to decide whether I like it, and if I don't know that, I'll probably be much less likely to buy anything else by the same artist.

Use this information wisely. Thank you.

9:12 pm - I type good
It turns out that it's easy to google for "Gary's anatomy" instead of "Gray's anatomy". Fortunately I didn't click on any of the links.

I bought a Volvo, and slotted inside the handbook was a leaflet for Saga holidays. Thanks, guys.

4:00 pm - Famous photographer
At the end of September I went to a free open-air Bootleg Beatles gig. Since it wasn't seated and it was a nice sunny day, I took my camera and took as many pictures as I could. I think I ended up taking over 1000 in just over an hour. After the gig, we barged backstage and as we were talking to the guys, I showed them some of my pictures. They were quite impressed and said I should send them to their manager.

I filtered the 1000 down to 85 and sent small versions off. He emailed back and asked for slightly larger version of about 40 of those. I sent them off and heard no more back, which was a little disappointing.

Anyway, fast forward to last Tuesday evening, when [info]hddod was at their show at the Royal Albert Hall. I was sitting at home minding my business when I got a four word text message from her:
You're in the programme.
They had indeed used (and credited) some of my pictures.

It'd be an understatement to say I'm quite pleased about that! I've uploaded some of them to Flickr so you can have a look for yourself.

3:49 pm - Pub dialogue
I was in the pub yesterday and overhead the following bit of dialogue. Well, it actually happened right next to me. A guy was getting a round in, and from the way he was talking I'm guessing he'd been there for a while. He did seem quite drunk. Anyway, he reeled off his order to the barman, and then someone shouted over to him, so turned to the barman:
"And a gin and tonic!"
"Is that a large one?"
"What's cheapest?"
"Large."
"That'll do!"
It amused me so I thought I'd share it with you guys.

7:55 pm - A pun
One of our hardware suppliers is based in Germany, and as usual they have an offer in the run-up to Christmas where everyone spending a reasonable amount on hardware also receives a free Stollen cake. A nice gesture, but who wants to be caught receiving Stollen goods?

I was having a think in the bath the other day (I do all my best thinking in either the bath or the car - as I commented to my boss, if I had a bath in my car I'd probably be a supergenius), and I got thinking about frozen peas.

Imagine dropping a frozen pea onto carpet. You'd probably barely hear it. Now drop the pea onto a wooden surface - definitely louder. Now drop it onto a sheet of steel or aluminium - clang!

You've probably worked out where this is leading. What's the loudest substance for dropping frozen peas onto? I don't know enough about the sciences to be able to work it out myself, but common sense says it's not just related to the hardness because otherwise a diamond would presumably be loudest, and I'm pretty sure that's not the case.

I'm throwing this open to the audience because it has me stumped. Many thanks.

But I learned fast how to keep my head up 'cause I
Know there is this side of me that
Wants to grab the yoke from the pilot and just
Fly the whole mess into the sea.

And what a mess it is.

No points awarded for recognising the Shins. No points for liking them before you heard them on the soundtrack of Garden State.

September was okay. October's off to a fairly rough start.
